Your Greatest Gift
“There is nothing in the world so irresistibly contagious as laughter and good humor.”
- Charles Dickens (A Christmas Carol)
It’s Christmas day! I hope that you are having an amazing Holiday Season.
Did you get everything you wanted?
Did you find the “right” presents for those who you gifted?
Are you sure?
If the size didn’t fit, they could return it. If it wasn’t the right brand, they can return it. If it just wasn’t “them”, they will probably return it.
That’s the problem with most gifts. They are just material things. What I’m talking about giving is the greatest gift you can give anyone.
YOU!
Giving of yourself is the greatest gift that you can give anyone. It might cost you a little time, but the pay-off is HUGE.
The memories you will make, the stories you will share, the love that you pass along will never be the “wrong size” or the “wrong brand” hence it will never be tossed aside, it will always be cherished.
In my life, the time I get to spend with my son is priceless. I just sit back and soak in his words and his stories and his amazing sense of humor. I do this because I know one day, he will be out in the world making his mark, climbing his mountains, following his path. He will be, like me, singularly focused on being the best at what he does. I wouldn’t expect anything less from him. And he will lose track of time and forget to give me a call. So, I am cherishing each moment I have with him now.
My time with friends is so important to me. I don’t talk a lot when we’re all together, because I love to listen and laugh with them. I value the time they come to me and ask my advice or want to hear my opinion. This is when I get to give back to them, that they have given to me.
I think back to the time that I spent with my parents when we would come see them during breaks in my schedule. I learned something every time we were together. When we were growing up mom was busy raising and chasing five kids, so we never seemed to get time to talk. Pops was working, and when he came home, he wasn’t one for small talk. But when they retired, they were able to give their stories and laughter freely. I am so glad that Alex was able to hear their voices so he could carry them with him as he moves forward with his life.
These are the gifts that will never grow old, because they came from within.
Give Your Gift
Who in your life needs to hear your message? Who needs your time?
You may think that you don’t have a “message” to pass on, or that no one cares what you have to say. To that I would say you are so WRONG! Look at what you have done in your life. Maybe you have climbed your highest mountains, maybe you are still looking for the right path to start your climb, no matter where you are at in your life you have a message that someone NEEDS to hear.
Sometimes just your presence is enough to bring a calming vibe to someone’s life. Maybe, it’s your energy that sparks a person to do more than they could do on their own.
It might be volunteering at a school, a hospital, your church or at an animal shelter. Your gifts can help so many. Don’t keep them to yourself.
In the end the greatest gift that you have is YOU! The more you share this gift the better your life will be. Don’t be like Ebenezer Scrooge and hoard all of your riches, live your life to its fullest by sharing your laughter, wisdom and love with those around you.
When you give of yourself you have truly given the greatest gift EVER!
Be safe, enjoy the holidays and have a Merry Christmas!
