Ruthless
Ruthless. This is the underbelly of the beast. The ugly part that you don’t see in many documentaries. But it’s the truth … the truth you might want to accept, but the truth that you need to hear.
Most people don’t get to the top without a little bit of ruthlessness on their climb. The little things that are not “according to Hoyle”. The offensive lineman who is getting beat time and time again sees his shot as the defensive linemen is in pursuit of a play down the line. The offensive lineman cuts the back of the defensive lineman’s legs. The ball carrier runs for a touchdown … the d-lineman is in a ball clutching his knee behind the play. Dirty. In today’s game, it is a penalty. Five years ago, not so much.
Some coaches will call it a “business decision”. The defensive player knows he can get cut from behind, but he makes the business decision to chase the ball. The offensive player knows that that player backing up his nemesis is not nearly the same quality of player, makes a “business decision”. To misquote Machiavelli (the statesman not the rapper), “The ends justify the means”.
In short, whatever it takes to “win”, as long as you win, justifies your actions. It’s a shitty way to do business. But we see it every weekend we watch sports. Every time we turn on CNN or Fox News. Every time we go to the movies. People making ruthless decisions.
If we see a pack of hyenas surrounding a lone lion, and move in for the kill, though it’s ruthless, it is nature. Being “civilized” we expect more from our fellow man. But then we stand and watch Russia bombing apartment buildings in a city in Ukraine. Ruthless. If the Russians win, then bombing the apartment buildings was justified because it brought about the ending those in charge were hoping for. For the rest of us in the world it is an atrocity. But what about those who can turn the channel and say, “that’s unfortunate”. Now that’s ruthless.
We see it in business. Story after story of how corporations ruthlessly work against the common good of their “fellow man” to earn that extra dollar. When they are called to answer for their ruthlessness they hide behind lawyers and political contributions. Maybe one or two people will go to prison, those who were sacrificed by the corporation, but do the people get their money back? Not so much. Move on. It’s a ruthless world and if you aren’t a little ruthless you will be a victim.
Move or Die is a book about earning all you ever dreamt of. Notice how I use the word “EARN”. Nothing needs to be taken, stolen, grafted, or even borrowed. The only thing that is ruthless in becoming successful is the way that you guard your time.
In order to win in MOVE or Die one must be ruthless in the protection of your TIME. You must guard it like it is the rarest gem in the world. Actually, it’s more valuable than that gem. You can always get that gem back. Once time is spent, invested, or used it is gone. You can’t redo anything without using more of that precious commodity, time.
